A Marion County man who brought a cellphone with fake money pled guilty to charges against him during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

Forty-two-year-old Duaine Henry Robinson of Bruno was given 10 years probation and ordered to pay $200 in victim restitution. He faces charges of forgery and theft of property.

The victim reported to police he had been communicating with an individual on Facebook about purchasing his cellphone.

A meeting was set up at a convenience store in Gassville to discuss the potential deal, and it was captured by video surveillance cameras.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the potential buyer — identified as Robinson — arrived at the store and sat watching the victim for a time. Robinson was reported to have eventually pulled beside the victim’s vehicle. He agreed to buy the phone for the asking price of $200 and handed the phone’s owner two $100 bills.

The probable cause affidavit notes Robinson made a hasty exit, after he had handed over the cash. He told the victim he was in a hurry because he had to return a vehicle he had borrowed from a friend.

When the victim went into the store after Robinson had left the scene, he was told the bills were fake, and the store refused to take them. The victim called Gassville police at that point.
