As the Baxter County Fair continues, one of its biggest events will be held Wednesday. The fair parade will get underway at 5:30 at Long Chiropractic on Hospital Drive.
The parade will enter State Highway 5, turn right and go south on Main Street and conclude at Guy Berry College and Career Academy. No pre-registration is required for floats.
Entrants are asked to enter from State Highway 178 to keep Hospital Drive open for medical emergencies. Political cars and floats will need to enter at Bucher Drive by First United Methodist Church and line up at the corner of Burnett Drive and Beard Drive. The 2018 baby contest winners and Lad ‘N’ Lassie group should enter and line up at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Last year’s Baxter County Fair Pageant winners should assemble at First United Methodist Church and move as a group to line up on Hospital Drive in front of Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services. Marching bands should line up at the First Security Bank parking lot at Highway 5 and Hospital Drive. Horses, bicycles and other participants should line up on Highway 178 at Buttercup Drive near Cardiovascular Associates.
Float entries must be in line for judging by 5:15. Floats will be judged in the categories of general and religious. Political floats are for exhibition only, and horses, bicycles and children’s dress-up will not be judged. The winners for each category will receive $100, and $75 will go to the runners-up.
Other activities include judging for the horticulture, home economics, art and photography categories. The horticulture room will be closed from 8 until 5, and the education building will be closed from 8:30 until 5 for the judging competitions.
Poultry and rabbits can arrive at their barn from 9 until 6, and poultry blood testing will occur from 10 until 6 in the lot by the fair office. Other livestock must be in place in the livestock barn by noon, and check-ins and weigh-ins will be held from noon until 4. Swine showmanship will be held in the livestock show arena beginning at 6, and the swine show will immediately follow.
The carnival midway will be open from 5 p.m. until the time the fair closes. Commercial booths will be open from 5 until 9. The horse show will get underway following the parade in the Mountain Home Saddle Club Arena.
Wednesday will also be the first evening of entertainment on the outdoor stage. Ellis Family Bluegrass will perform from 7 until 9.
