The Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County has been selected to participate in Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, an initiative sponsored by Grow With Google, the tech company’s economic opportunity initiative. The project is a collaboration of the American Library Association and the Public Library Association. The Baxter County Library will use the funding to provide classes for individuals who are entering or re-entering the workforce.

Library Director Kim Crow-Sheaner says, “The Baxter County Library has provided workforce development training in some form or fashion for quite some time. Having this kind of support from the American Library Association and Google will allow us to do an even better job aligning with the Baxter County Forward objective to improve worker readiness in our community and complimenting the efforts of our partners in this effort such as the Chamber of Commerce, ASUMH, and area schools.”

Available classes will go over the use of Google applications like Google Drive, Sheets and Docs. Google Drive 101 on Tuesday and will go over the basics of Google’s cloud platform for document storage. Job Search with Google Sheets on Sept. 24 will demonstrate how users can use Google Sheets and Google’s job search functionality to facilitate the job finding process. Lastly, Resume Building with Google Docs on Oct. 1 will teach the use of Google Docs, built in templates to create the perfect resume. All classes will be offered from 6 until 7 p.m.

Nicky Rigg, program manager for digital skills outreach at Google, says, “Libraries have long been America’s gathering place for learning. From learning new digital skills for the workplace, to creating a résumé or growing your business online, people are going to libraries as resources for professional growth now more than ever. Grow with Google is excited to support library programs across the country to help ensure that economic opportunity exists for everyone.”

This program is funded by Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, which was created so local libraries can combine their own program offerings with Grow with Google training materials to offer community workshops or other activities aimed at empowering small businesses to grow online or assisting job seekers to prepare for and find work.

The Grow with Google initiative draws on Google’s 20-year history of building products, platforms and services to help people and businesses grow. Google officials say through this initiative, they aim to help everyone across America, those who make up the workforce of today and those who will drive the workforce of tomorrow, access the best of the company’s training and tools to grow their skills, careers and businesses.

Grow With Google has made a commitment to deliver free, in-person workshops for job seekers, small businesses and library staff in all 50 states. Learn more about the tour and upcoming events at grow.google/events Grow With Google.
