Louisiana man killed in motorcycle crash east of Jasper

A Louisiana man was killed early Friday afternoon in a motorcycle accident in Newton County. According to the Arkansas State Police, 61-year-old Giles Gober of Monroe was pronounced dead following the accident east of Jasper.

Giles Gober and his passenger, 60-year-old Ellen Gober of Monroe, Louisiana, were traveling on Arkansas Highway 74. They were negotiating a right-hand curve nearly 3/10 of a mile east of Arkansas Highway 7 when the motorcycle traveled over the centerline and into the opposite lane. Giles Gober reportedly lost control, and the motorcycle struck a concrete curb before coming to rest.

Ellen Gober was injured. It was not reported if she was transported to a medical facility.

The road was wet, and rain was falling during the 12:05 p.m. accident.
