A Stone County man, 65-year-old Kevin Fred Urbany of rural Mountain View, is reported to have said he “knew this day was coming,” after a law enforcement eradication team located his marijuana grow operation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, investigators with the Stone County Sheriff’s Department, 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Army National Guard Eradication (ERAD) team observed marijuana plants from a helicopter at Urbany’s residence along the 100 block of Arkansas Highway 58 Sept. 13.

Officers arrived to find a male subject, later identified as Urbany, standing outside the residence looking toward the ERAD helicopter. When they told the Mountain View man why they had arrived at his property, he reportedly spontaneously said he “knew this day was coming” and advised he had been growing marijuana for over 10 years for himself. He said he did not have funds for a medical marijuana card.

Urbany then allegedly invited law enforcement inside his home, saying he would show the officers where he had set up his indoor grow operation.

He told them he had four plants outside, pointed out a window to two pots visible from the residence and showed them his planter pots in a room off the kitchen.

He then led them to a dresser beside his couch and opened a drawer to reveal four bags of processed marijuana, dated and weighed. Other paraphernalia was located in the residence, and stripped stalks were found in a trash can in the kitchen.

While at the Urbany residence, a pickup truck pulled into the driveway. When the occupant of the vehicle saw police, he erratically pulled out of the driveway and attempted to flee. A traffic stop was conducted on the individual familiar to the officers as a known user of marijuana and illicit narcotics. No details on any arrest or charges were provided.

Urbany was charged with felony counts of maintaining a drug premises, manufacture of a controlled substance and possession with the purpose to deliver a controlled substance. He was released on an O-R bond.
