The Mountain Home High School football team opened 6A-East Conference play Friday night at Jonesboro and found out why the Hurricane is the third ranked team in class 6A. Brad Haworth has the details.
Listen:
In recent years, Jonesboro has been known as a team that didn’t care how many points they gave up, they planned to out-score their opponents. This year’s Jonesboro team though is very solid on the defensive side, as the limited Mountain Home’s offense to just 107 yards in a 32-7 win.
It was the Hurricane who got on the board first, scoring just 42 seconds into the game, after marching 63 yards in just four plays.
Mountain Home would answer though with their defense. Tatem Beshears scored his second defensive touchdown of the season, when he picked off a pass and returned it 29 yards for a score to give the Bombers a 7-6 lead.
Jonesboro responded with three second quarter touchdowns to go up 25-7 at halftime. Dontarius McDonald scored his second and third rushing T.D. of the game, before quarterback Cross Jumper hooked up with Dryden Bartels just before the break.
In the third quarter, the jumper to Bartels connection worked again for an 18-yard score.
Jonesboro ended up with 500 yards of total offense to the 107 of Mountain Home.
The Hurricane improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Bombers fall to 0-4.
Mountain Home returns home next Friday night to host Pine Bluff.
