A Mountain Home man pled guilty to drug-related charges filed against him and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with seven suspended and three to serve during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

Thirty-year-old Michael Cox was arrested in mid-August at a residence in Cotter. Officers went to the home to conduct a compliance visit on Cody Mills, a probationer who lived in the home.

The compliance check was made after “numerous complaints” of alleged drug activity at the house located along Dalton Avenue were received. Cox was the only one at the residence at the time officers arrived and surrounded the property. Cox later told officers he stayed with Mills “off and on.”

Cox was arrested the day of the raid, and Mills was picked up later and also charged with drug-related offenses.

According to the probable cause affidavit, after officers were in place, an investigator working with the 14th Judicial District Drug Task Force knocked on the front door for “several minutes” with no answer. After some time, Cox answered he was “asleep.”

After officers entered the home, they found a number of items of drug paraphernalia and an open plastic bag of new syringes hidden under the exterior siding at the rear of the residence. Cox had been seen by an officer just prior to the compliance visit meeting with another man at the location and could be seen reaching under the siding.

According to court records, Cox has multiple prior felony convictions.
