Neil Lupin/RedfernsSome encouraging news has emerged regarding the health of Ginger Baker, after his family announced last week that the legendary Cream drummer was “critically ill in hospital.”

A new update posted on Baker’s official Facebook page reports, “Ginger is holding his own.” The message adds, “thank you for all your good wishes. He is receiving visits from close family & very special friends.”

Accompanying the note is a photo from 1997 that shows Ginger, along with his late ex-wife Liz and their three children — daughters Nettie and Leda, and son Kofi.

As previously reported, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, who turned 80 in August, has experienced a number of health issues in recent years. In 2013, Baker revealed that he was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic back pain, and in 2016 he underwent open-heart surgery after being diagnosed with a serious heart condition.
