The Beatles' 'Abbey Road' lands at #3 on 'Billboard' 200 following 50th anniversary reissues

Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMeAfter the 50th anniversary reissues of The BeatlesAbbey Road helped the album return to the top of the U.K. chart for the first time in almost 50 years, the record also has leaped from #71 to #3 on the Billboard 200.

Abbey Road earned 81,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during the week after the reissue’s September 27 release, an 803-percent increase from the previous week. Of the 81,000 units, 70,000 are from album sales.

Originally released on September 26, 1969, Abbey Road went on to spend 11 nonconsecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200, a run that ended in January 1970. The last time the album was in the top 10 of the chart was in April of 1970.

As previously reported, the Abbey Road reissues boast a new stereo mix of the album by Giles Martin, son of Beatles producer George Martin. The deluxe versions of the collection feature 23 session recordings and demos, most of which were previously unreleased.
