As homecoming week comes up in the Mountain Home School District, one of the annual highlights is the Mountain Home Education Foundation’s Night of Honors. One of the Hall of Honor’s newest inductees will be former high school and junior high mathematics teacher Ralph Ingram.
With the exception of the four years he attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ingram has resided on Moccasin Creek in Izard County his entire life. After graduating from Calico Rock High School in 1959, he went to college with dreams of being an engineer, but he switched to math and science as a teaching subject. He did his student teaching in the Springdale School District, and after graduation, he was offered a teaching position there.

Ingram began his career teaching math and science at Mountain Home Junior High School for six years. He later transferred to a math-teaching position at Mountain Home High School Career Academies, where he stayed for the remaining 38 years of his career.
Ingram says during his time as an instructor, he observed several changes with the advancement of technology, starting with the use of calculators.

Geometry, trigonometry and pre-calculus were among the subjects Ingram taught at Mountain Home, but his favorite course to teach was algebra II.

Ingram will be recognized during the Night of Honors Thursday evening at 5:30 in the Vada Sheid Community Development Center on the campus of Arkansas State University-Mountain Home.
