A 25-year-old Clarkridge man appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday and changed his plea to guilty on charges stemming from an attack on another person in May.

Aaron Dakota Jones, who faced charges of second-degree battery, was sentenced to six years in prison with four suspended and two to serve by Circuit Judge Kathleen Bell, who was sitting in for Judge Gordon Webb.

Jones was accused of being involved in a fight with a 63-year-old man at a residence along State Highway 201 North.

A Baxter County deputy sheriff responded to a report of a fight in progress at the address May 23. When the deputy arrived on the scene, he reported making contact with the victim. The deputy said the victim had blood running from his head down his neck. He told the deputy Jones had hit him on the head with something he had taken from a toolbox during the confrontation.

A witness to part of the fight told the deputy she had heard arguing and had seen Jones swing at the victim and hit him with some sort of tool as he was bent over a front porch railing.

There was no information in the probable cause affidavit as to what led to the fight, and what, if any, connection existed between the two men.

The victim was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for a severe laceration to the head.

When the deputy arrived at the scene of the altercation, Jones had already fled into nearby woods. He was arrested June 6.
