
The high school basketball season in Arkansas got underway Monday night, including four games at the Bad Boy Mowers Classic at Izard County High School. It was a successful opening for the local teams.
The host Cougars, the defending Class 1A state champs, raced to a 73-32 win over Greers Ferry Westside. Caleb Faulkner paced a balanced attack with 18 points, Coby Everett scored 15, Justus Cooper had 14 and Chase Orf added 10 points.
The Viola boys held off Pangburn 78-71. Gage Harris scored 30 and Blaine Marberry had 29 points for the Longhorns.
The Viola girls downed Pangburn 63-43. Keyaira Moore led the way with 25 points for the Lady Longhorns and Braidlyn Fierce scored 18.
In the other girl’s game, Riverside defeated West Side 45-33.
In junior high hoops, the Cotter junior boys defeated Norfork 36-34. Hudson Adams led the Junior Warriors with 17 points.
Norfork won the junior girl’s contest 46-29. Cotter got 14 points from Morgan Zick.
Cotter won the seventh grade girl’s game 17-14.
