Visitation for inmates at the Baxter County Detention Center is set to resume Monday. Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says visitation had been suspended for several months due to construction interference from the jail expansion project.

Sheriff Montgomery says when visitation resumes Monday, family members will enter the detention center through the new front lobby. A jailer will be stationed in the hallway area to register and process visitors, who will then wait in the lobby area until they are called for their visitation turn.Visitation hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays have been expanded to accommodate increased inmate populations. There are no visitation hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends.

On Mondays, visitation is available for male inmates with last names beginning with “A” through “M.”

On Wednesdays, visitation is available for male inmates with last names beginning with “N” through “Z.”

Visitation is available on Fridays for female inmates.

Hours for visitation are from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Each jail inmate is allowed an aggregate total of thirty minutes of visitation per week. This time may be broken into increments and utilized as the inmate chooses between various family and friends.

Regulations and restrictions concerning visitation may be found on the sheriff’s office FAQ web page under “VISITATION TIMES AND RULES” at Jail visitation rules.

Montgomery says visitors are encouraged to review the rules and regulations before arriving at the facility. All rules are subject to future change without prior notice at the discretion of the sheriff.

The new public lobby area of the detention center is already open to the public. In the new lobby area visitors will find an automated kiosk device to use for placing money on the accounts of inmates in order for them to make allowable purchases from the commissary. There is also a vending machine available in the lobby for drinks and snacks, as well as a seating area.

Montgomery says the new housing additions to the detention center will be opening soon. He says watch for upcoming announcements for a public open house.
