Bomber boys win state X-country championship; Cudworth takes girls’ individual title

The Mountain Home High School cross country teams ended the season with a couple of the top prizes Saturday in the Arkansas State Cross Country Championships at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs.

The Bomber boys successfully completed their quest to become the Class 5A state champions. Mountain Home ended up 24 points better than the runner-up, Lake Hamilton, and Russellville was a distant third. Whit Lawrence was the Bombers’ top individual performer, as he cross the line in second place with a time of 16:06.4.

This is the fourth state title for Mountain Home’s boys.  The Bombers also took the championship in 2000, 2011 and 2012.

Mountain Home’s girls ended up in sixth place as a team, but they ended up being represented by the individual state champion. Marcie Cudworth led the way in Class 5A with a mark of 19:08.2. Greenwood won the team title, and Lake Hamilton was second.
