A man charged with stealing a debit card and using it at least 26 times, running up a tab of more than $3,300, entered a guilty plea to the charges against him in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday and was put on probation for five years.
The charges against 31-year-old Derrick Justin Pannell, whose last listed address was in Midway, date back to 2017. Pannell has been serving a prison sentence in Missouri and was brought before the Baxter County court, after he did his time in Missouri.
According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, a man reported his debit card had been taken from the center console of his pickup truck, while the vehicle was parked in his driveway.
Before the victim noticed his card missing, it had been used a number of times. Investigators went to businesses where the card had been used and obtained video from surveillance cameras enabling them to zero in on Pannell and another individual.
Investigators found the card had been used 26 times in a 13-day period.
In addition to being put on probation, Pannell and the other individual will be required to each pay half of the $3,300 restitution.
