
The Mountain Home freshmen basketball teams began conference play by splitting their road games with West Memphis West.
The Junior Lady Bombers began the evening by beating the Lady Blue Imps 39-25. Cate Jackson led Mountain Home with 14 points. The Junior Lady Bombers improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in the 5A-East.
Mountain Home did not fare as well in the boys’ contest, as they fell to West Memphis West 46-31. The Junior Bombers fall to 2-5 on the year and 0-1 in the league.
Both Mountain Home teams will play Wynne Thursday at Bomber Gymnasium.
The Mountain Home eighth grade boys began the Norfork Junior High Tournament with a 45-22 victory over Timbo. The Eighth Grade Bombers remain unbeaten in four games on the season, and they’ll return to Norfork Wednesday evening to take on Calico Rock.
Norfork was eliminated from the tournament in the other boys’ game, as they were edged out by Izard County 42-41. The Junior Cougars’ next opponent in the tournament will be Mountain View on Wednesday.
On the high school level, Cotter’s boys were one and done in the Bev Stone Border Classic at Omaha. The Warriors lost to Green Forest 57-55.
Lead Hill was also eliminated from the boys’ bracket. The Tigers fell to Kingston by a final of 80-75.
Marshall’s girls were able to advance to the semifinals of the tournament. The Lady Bobcats pounded Eureka Springs 58-38.
Omaha won the other girls’ game on Monday. The host Lady Eagles doubled up Green Forest 56-28.
Viola’s boys dominated its first game in the Williams Baptist University High School Tournament at Walnut Ridge with a 64-33 victory over Maynard. The Longhorns were led by Gage Harris with 21 points, and Blaine Marberry added 18.
Elsewhere, Flippin lost a pair of high school games at Jasper. The Lady Bobcats fell to the Lady Pirates 57-54. Flippin’s boys followed with a 36-35 loss to Jasper.
Mammoth Spring lost both of its high school basketball games at Melbourne.
The Bears fell to the Bearkatz 62-38 in the boys’ game. Alex Mero was Mammoth Spring’s top scorer with 25 points. The Bears will host Armorel on Friday.
Mammoth Spring did not fare any better in the girls’ contest, as they lost to Melbourne 68-24. Megyn Upton led the Lady Bears with 11 points. Mammoth Spring drops to 9-3 on the season, and they’ll meet Bakersfield on Monday when they host the Battle of the Border Tournament.
