A late afternoon traffic stop in Mountain Home Saturday has resulted in a vehicle’s two allegedly-intoxicated occupants kicking officers after they were arrested. Twenty-six-year-old Christopher Lynne of Gainesville and 30-year-old Talisa Deshazo of West Plains are in the Baxter County Detention Center on a felony count of second-degree battery on a police officer and several misdemeanor counts.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a Mountain Home officer stopped an SUV on Iowa Avenue just before 5 p.m. for a traffic violation. The officer approached the driver, identified as Lynne, and reportedly could smell an intoxicating beverage from inside the vehicle. The officer says Lynne’s eyes were bloodshot, watery and glassy, and his speech was slurred.

Lynne exited the vehicle on the officer’s command and admitted he didn’t have insurance. He originally told the officer he had consumed one shot, but after his portable breathalyzer test showed a result of .12, he then admitted he consumed enough shots to catch a buzz.

Deshazo was the front seat passenger and reportedly not secured by a seat belt, as it appeared she was sleeping. Her speech to the officer was also slurred. She allegedly refused multiple commands to exit the vehicle and began swearing at the officer. The officer observed an open whiskey bottle under Deshazo’s feet. Deshazo continued to curse and began threatening the officer.

Another officer arrived on the scene, and the two attempted to remove Deshazo from the SUV. She was allegedly yelling and kicking at the officers and punched the responding officer in the lip. She continued to resist after being tased. When she was secured into handcuffs, she reportedly spit food on the responding officer and kicked him again.

At the Baxter County Detention Center, Deshazo refused to exit the patrol vehicle. She allegedly threatened, kicked and spit on multiple jailers as they removed her.

Also at the jail, Lynne reportedly became irate and spit in the responding officer’s face. He then lunged at the officer and began swearing at him. After Lynne kicked a table, the officer was assisted by jailers to carry and place the suspect in a restraint chair. Lynne allegedly kicked the officer and a jailer multiple times.

In addition to the battery charge, Lynne and Deshazo face misdemeanor counts of terroristic threatening and no seat belt. Lynne was also charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense), refusal to submit to chemical test, driving left of center and no liability insurance. Deshazo’s additional charges include obstructing governmental operations, public intoxication, possession of an open container and resisting arrest.

Bond for Lynne and Deshazo was set at $5,000 each.
