Mary McCartney/MPL CommunicationsPaul McCartney is responsible for one of the most famous contemporary yuletide songs, “Wonderful Christmastime,” but now he’s revealed that he also recorded an entire holiday album — that he only plays for family members.

During an interview Thursday on the BBC Radio 4 program World at One, McCartney explained, “Years ago, I thought, ‘There’s not very good Christmas records [and] I’d like to do something traditional and simple and easy’…So I actually went into my studio over a couple of years and I made one, but it’s just for the family.”

He added that the album was collection of demo recordings of instrumental versions of such traditional holiday carols as “Good King Wenceslas” and “Silent Night.”

Paul noted that the album has never been released: “it just gets brought out each year” for the holidays.

McCartney said that his children like the album, “and now it’s the grandkids getting indoctrinated with my carols record.”

As for what he’d like for Christmas this year, McCartney said, half jokingly, “Peace on Earth,” then admitted, “I don’t know actually. I’m terrible on presents. I just gratefully accept whatever I get.
