Ninety-five children from approximately 40 families participated in the annual Shop with a Cop program partnership between Junior Auxiliary of Mountain Home and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 45.The event last Saturday at Walmart in Mountain Home included officers from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain Home, Lakeview and Gassville police departments and the Arkansas State Police shopping with children for presents to help make their Christmas brighter and merrier. Each child was given a $100 shopping card to use however he or she wanted to spend it.
Junior Auxiliary provided a complimentary food basket for the families whose children participated in Shop with a Cop. Volunteers also wrapped the presents the children selected and purchased.
The children and families invited to attend were selected based upon recommendations from school resource officers and counselors at the Mountain Home, Cotter and Norfork schools.
This yearly event was made possible by a grant from Walmart Foundation and many generous donations made by various businesses, organizations and citizens in the community.
