MHHS girls meet Cabot for tourney title, boys face Searcy for 3rd place

Basketball makes up the local Saturday schedule as the Mountain Home High School teams wrap up action in the Cabot Pre-Holiday Classic.
The Bomber boys will take the court first as they will meet Searcy in the third place game. Mountain Home is currently 3-3 on the season after losing to the host Panthers on Friday. The Lions lost their semifinal game Tuesday to Pulaski Academy. Tip-off is schedule for 2:30.
One week after winning the Branson Battle at the Border, Mountain Home’s girls will try to take home another championship trophy as they meet Cabot. The Lady Bombers are 6-0 after holding Mount St. Mary to under 20 points. The Lady Panthers defeated Pulaski Academy Tuesday in the other semifinal. Gametime is set for 4 p.m.

The Marvin Newton Classic will be held Saturday in Viola. In the girls’ games, Cotter and Alpena tip off at 10 a.m., Omaha faces Shirley at 12:30, Izard County takes on Bradford at 3, and the host Lady Longhorns will be paired with Clinton at 5:30. On the boys’ side, Cotter plays Shirley at 11:15, Izard County meets Neelyville, Missouri, at 1:45, and Viola faces Bradford at 5:30.

The Battle of the Border Tournament will come to an end at Mammoth Spring. The consolation championship games will be first as Calico Rock’s girls take on Koshkonong at noon, and Mountain Home Christian Academy’s boys will be matched up with Calico Rock at 1:30. In the third place games, Salem’s girls play Hillcrest at 3, and the Bakersfield boys meet Mountain View-Liberty at 4:30. Mammoth Spring will compete in both championship games as the girls face Thayer at 6, and the boys take on Hillcrest at 7:30.

Gainesville will play for the consolation title of the Mansfield Invitational Boys’ Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs will take the court at 5.

Mountain View’s girls will compete for the championship of the Mark Martin Automotive/Lyon College High School Tournament at Batesville. The Yellowjackets will go up against Southside Batesville at 8 p.m.

The Western Grove Tournament will have its final games Saturday. Both of Timbo’s teams will meet Mount Judea for the consolation title starting with the girls at noon, both third place games will pair Deer with Oark at 3, and both Western Grove teams will play Jasper for the championship at 6.

The Bergman boys will compete for the championship of the Arvest Bank Duel at the Dome in West Fork. The Panthers will face Lavaca at 5:30.

Omaha’s boys will play their last game in the Anstaff Bank Holiday Tournament at Green Forest. The Eagles will take on the host Tigers at 7.

Mountain Home’s seventh grade girls will have a short road trip on Saturday. The Seventh Grade Lady Bombers will compete in a jamboree at the Yellville-Summit Multi-Purpose Facility.

The Mountain Home seventh grade boys will take part in the BKEA Tournament at Bald Knob. The Seventh Grade Bombers will be paired with Tuckerman at 11:15.
