A local school district has received a generous donation from a pair of its residents. The anonymous couple donated $11,666 to pay all of the outstanding lunch debt in the Bakersfield R-IV School District.
Bakersfield Superintendent Dr. Amy Britt says the couple felt welcomed with open arms when they moved to the community years ago, and they wanted to show their gratitude without expecting anything in return.

Dr. Britt says there are always circumstances in which paying for a child’s lunch may be more difficult for some families than others. She adds every child in the district will eat, even if they get behind on payments.

The donation can also assist the schools in paying for different items, and Dr. Britt says everyone in the district — staff and local citizens — is grateful to the donors for their gift.
