MHHS basketball teams advance to 1st Ark. Bail Bonds finals

The second day of the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Tournament at Mountain Home ended with both of the host teams advancing to the finals.

The Lady Bombers were able to squeak by Watson Chapel 46-45. The game went back-and-forth with eight lead changes and four ties. The two teams were knotted at 24 at the end of the first half. Mountain Home was up by a point with the last few seconds ticking off. The Lady Wildcats had a chance to take the lead, but Leah Jackson came up with a steal, and Watson Chapel was forced to foul her with 8/10 of a second. While Jackson missed the front end of a one-and-one, the Lady Wildcats were unable to get a shot off in time after getting the rebound.
Kate Gilbert led the Lady Bombers with 19 points, and Addison Yates added 11. For Watson Chapel, Tekerra Mayweather scored 14 points. Mountain Home improves to 9-2 on the season, and the Lady Wildcats fall to 7-4.
Rogers will be the Lady Bombers’ championship opponent after they defeated Farmington 61-46 in the other semifinal. On the consolation side, Paragould routed Highland 53-24, and Har-Ber pounded Junction City 56-14.

Mountain Home’s boys will join their female counterparts in the finals after beating Junction City 63-57. The Bombers started off scoring the first six points, but the Dragons followed with the next 11. The game had a total of six lead changes, and Mountain Home went into the break up three. The Bombers were able to build an 11-point advantage in the fourth quarter. Junction City forced Mountain Home into key turnovers to cut the margin back to four, but they would get no closer, as the Bombers ended up with a six-point victory.
Mountain Home was led by Wyatt Gilbert with 32 points, and Mat Jones chipped in 12. For the Dragons, Ryan Allen and Jakendall Henderson had 13 points each, and Harlandus Frazier and Zak Brown each finished with 11. The Bombers are now 7-4 on the year, and Junction City drops to 1-3.
Flippin’s Bobcats played in the other boys’ semifinal, but they were not as fortunate after falling to Farmington 59-45. The Bobcats’ record is now 14-4.
In the consolation games, Hamburg got past Cave City 55-52, and Clarendon topped Paragould 41-35.
