At the recent NAMM Show musical-equipment trade event in Anaheim, California, Krieger told the media that the album is titled The Ritual Begins at Sundown. He added, “[O]ne of my paintings [is] the album cover, and that’s the name of the painting.”

No release has been announced for the record, which is a follow-up to Krieger’s Grammy-nominated 2010 instrumental album Singularity. Robby previously told ABC Audio that he was recording the new collection with members of his Robby Krieger’s Jam Kitchen side project, which includes two former Frank Zappa sidemen — bassist Arthur Barrow and keyboardist Tommy Mars.

Meanwhile, the 74-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer lately has been playing shows with a jazz-influence new group called The New Experience, which also features keyboardist Ed Roth, bassist Kevin Brandon and drummer Dale Alexander.

Asked at The NAMM Show whether he’d like to record with the band, Krieger said, “I hope so, yeah. You know, do a few more gigs and then as soon as we get enough [music together], we’ll record it.”

Robby and The New Experience have mostly been playing shows at small venues in the Los Angeles area. Their next gig is scheduled for February 22 at The Write-Off Room in Woodland Hills, California.

First up for Krieger, this Thursday, February 6, he and Doors band mate John Densmore will participate in a special screening of their new concert film The Doors: Break On Thru — A Celebration of Ray Manzarek at The Grammy Museum in L.A. He, Densmore and director Justin Kreutzmann will take part in a post-screening discussion. The movie also will be shown in select U.S. theaters on February 12.
