Arvest Bank was scheduled to launch its 10th annual Million Meals initiative in late March to fight hunger in the four-state region it serves. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the bank will instead proactively provide one million meals in the fight against hunger. In the Twin Lakes Area, Arvest Bank is providing funding assistance to the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas.
Local food partners are seeing an increased need for the help the bank’s two-month campaign normally provides. Arvest Bank’s North Central Arkansas president and CEO Mike Willard says the meals will be provided in the form of direct monetary donations to its 80-plus food partners as soon as possible. Willard says the initiative was scheduled to start March 30, but the bank provided the funding assistance because they “believe our food partners need it now.”
In its first nine years, the Million Meals campaign has raised over 17 million meals, including more than $3 million in funds given directly to the bank’s local food partners. Arvest Bank is encouraging those normally supporting the initiative through in-branch food contributions or fundraisers to donate directly to their local food bank or other appropriate organization if possible.
