Last week, MH CARES delivered over 1,000 meals to families in the Mountain Home area.
MH CARES is a non-profit organization started by businessmen Geoff Smith and Kirk Brown. The pair lead a large group of volunteers to partner with local restaurants to not only provide meals for those in need, but also provide valuable support for restaurants, which have been partially closed by restrictions of social distancing.
The meals are made possible by donations to MH CARES and by partnership with the local restaurants.
On April 14, MH CARES partnered with Letty’s Mexican Restaurant in Gassville to deliver 100 dinner platters, serving 500 meals to those working on the frontline of the grocery business and law enforcement. Meals went to workers at the Sunfest Market in Gassville, Town & Country Discount Foods, Casey’s General Stores and the Gassville and Mountain Home police departments.
Last Wednesday, MH CARES delivered 100 vouchers from Colton’s Steak House and Grill to barbers and beauticians who have been out of work because of restrictions from the pandemic. The cost of the vouchers was sponsored by Joan Gilbert of Gilbert Realty of Mountain Home.
MH CARES finished up the week on Friday by partnering with the Grill at Whispering Woods to deliver 440 meals to 100 homes in the area. The effort was coordinated with five area churches: East Side Baptist, Real Life Church, C-3 Christ Community Church, First Baptist Church and Riverside Church of Christ.
MH CARES has raised over $11,000 and has provided over 1,800 meals and support for local restaurants. One hundred percent of the money raised goes to the projects they sponsor.
Tax deductible donations may be made through the Salvation Army of Mountain Home. Designate your gift for MH CARES and send it to: The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 650, Mountain Home, AR 72654. You can learn more about the work of MH CARES by going to the organization’s Facebook page, MH CARES.
