The coronavirus pandemic has canceled yet another large gathering in North Central Arkansas, the Annual Meeting of the North Arkansas Electric Cooperative (NAEC) that would have been a time to celebrate 80 years of service. The annual meeting in Salem traditionally features a free barbecue meal for the cooperative’s members and employees, headline entertainment, a day of fun for all ages and the annual business meeting. In a message to its membership, NAEC officials say due to the pandemic, the traditional Annual Meeting will not be held. Instead, member appreciation events will be held at each co-op office at a later date. The Annual Meeting will entail only a business session at the co-op’s Salem headquarters.

NAEC also advises the election for open board of directors seats will be conducted by mail.

During the second week of May, members will receive an envelope with the NAEC logo from Survey & Ballot Systems. The Minnesota company is handling the election and tabulation of votes on behalf of the co-op.

Along with the ballot, the envelope will include the 2019 Annual Report, candidate biographies and a prepaid postage return envelope. Members can mail the ballot in the provided envelope to Survey & Ballot Systems.

Ballots cannot be given to NAEC. They must be received by Survey & Ballot Systems before June 2 to be considered valid.

Results will be published in The Messenger, included with monthly statements, and on naec.com.
