To start with the band news: New Order‘s Unity Tour with Pet Shop Boys has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The joint trek, set to kick off this September, has been moved to September of 2021.
Previously purchased tickets will be valid for the rescheduled shows, the exact dates for which have yet to be announced. Refunds will also be available. Visit NewOrder.com for all ticket info.
If that news has got you down, perhaps some newly reissued Joy Division vinyl will help cheer you up? A 40th anniversary LP edition of the group’s second and final album, 1980’s Closer, will be released on July 17, along with remastered, standalone vinyl singles for “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” “Transmission” and “Atmosphere.”
New Order, of course, was formed by Joy Division members Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris following the death of lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980.
Meanwhile, Sumner and Morris will mark the 40th anniversary of Curtis’ passing with a livestream next Monday, May 18, via UnitedWeStream.co.uk. Along with interviews with Curtis’ former band mates, the stream will also include The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers speaking about Joy Division’s influence on him.
