A Boone County man, 34-year-old Andrew James Brown of Harrison, while being booked into the county jail reportedly struck his head on the edge of a counter, knocking himself out and leading to profuse bleeding. Brown’s actions followed him allegedly saying he was sorry, and he didn’t want to go to jail. He was transported to the North Arkansas Medical Center for treatment of his injury. While in the emergency room, he reportedly dove headfirst off a bed, after refusing a CT scan and being advised he would be released to police custody.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday, Brown had been arrested following a domestic incident when he allegedly punched his wife in the face and choked her.

The incident occurred on Feb. 13 when his wife, with a valid order of protection, allowed Brown into her home to take a shower for an upcoming circuit court appearance.

After taking a shower, he reportedly refused to leave the residence, despite his wife reportedly instructing him to do so.

The report notes Brown asked for a cigarette, and the woman refused to give him one. He then reached across her to get one from a table and punched her in the lips. Brown then allegedly placed his hands around the victim’s neck.

The woman managed to escape Brown’s hold on her and attempted to escape the residence. But as she attempted to unlock the front door, Brown grabbed her again around the neck and began choking her a second time.

Again, the victim escaped Brown’s hold as they struggled. She was able to reach the front door where she was greeted by an upstairs neighbor who had heard the victim screaming.

Seeing the neighbor, Brown ran to a back room and yelled to the visitor to leave. The neighbor contacted police.

At the Boone County jail, Brown reportedly registered a .18 blood alcohol content on a portable breath test. He then struck his head on the booking room counter.

After being discharged from the hospital, a sober Brown was released on a signature bond when both the jails in Boone and Newton counties were reported at maximum capacity.

He faces charges of felony domestic battery and violation of a protective order.

Records indicate since 2011, Brown and his wife have been involved in nine cases of domestic battery. In 2020, Brown has been arrested twice for domestic battery and violation of a protective order.
