Protests continue throughout the United States following the recent death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer in Minneapolis, including on the local level Sunday as a bigger crowd than the previous two protests was at the Baxter County Courthouse square in Mountain Home.
One protester, Trevion “Trey” Washington, says one misconception concerning the protests throughout the country is partly about separation, but that is not the case.
Listen:
There were a few counter protesters standing on the other side of Main Street in front of the Mountain Home Plaza 2000, but Washington says it’s not the first time he’s met with someone with a different point of view. He says in the past, he has had a conversation with a representative of the Ku Klux Klan in Boone County.
Listen:
One positive takeaway Washington says he has from the protests locally and nationally is the participation coming from several white individuals.
Listen:
Sunday’s protest started just after 10:30 a.m. and continued throughout much of the rest of the day. Washington says he’s not sure if anymore local protests will occur in the future, but anyone with further questions can contact him on Facebook.
