A Wisconsin woman, who has reportedly been in the Oxford area for the last several months, is set to appear in Izard County Circuit Court this week to respond to felony charges of domestic battering and endangering the welfare of a minor.
According to the probable cause affidavit, 25-year-old Brittney Anne-Marie Vasey is also facing misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal mischief.
The charges follow law enforcement responding to an address off West Spring Hill Road in Oxford on Aug. 9 for a fight in progress.
While deputies were en route, dispatch received another call in reference to the same address, advising Vasey was allegedly assaulting her 1-year-old boy.
At the scene, law enforcement learned from victims and witnesses Vasey had reportedly been acting agitated throughout the day and had been aggressive toward the toddler. Specifically, Vasey allegedly threw a cellphone at the child, pushed him, yelled at him, dropped him from approximately 4 feet in the air and said the child could kill himself, and she wouldn’t care.
Deputies reported observing several red, irritated areas on the child’s torso and back, along with bruising on his left shoulder.
Witnesses reported Vasey having struck the 1-year-old in the chest with her knee, causing him to fall on the ground.
When a male adult attempted to separate Vasey from the child, she reportedly became combative toward three adults. In addition to reportedly striking them and grabbing them around the neck leaving scratch marks, she is alleged to have damaged the fender of a van belonging to one of the victims by kicking the vehicle.
Vasey then reportedly entered a camping trailer about 200 yards from the altercation and threw all of her belongings outside, as she continued to yell.
She told officers she had not been taking her medication since that morning and just wanted her child back in order to return to Wisconsin.
A representative of the Arkansas Department of Human Services arrived and took custody of the child.
Vasey was taken into custody without incident. Her bond was set at $20,000.
