An ordinance to start the condemnation process on the former Hiram Shaddox Geriatric Center, located at 620 Hospital Drive, highlights a short list of items on the agenda for the Mountain Home City Council’s September meeting.

The meeting begins Thursday evening at 6 in the council chambers of the Mountain Home Municipal Building.

The city is utilizing the same language as in previous condemnation efforts, including the site has become dilapidated, unsightly, unsafe, unsanitary, obnoxious and detrimental to the public welfare.

The building as been idle since it suffered severe damage when hit by a small tornado on April 18, 2018. The city’s ordinance states the building suffered “major structural damage.” The city says it has made efforts to have the problem eliminated and has contacted the owner, with no success.

Online property records identify the owner of the property as Health Care Solutions, LLC.

The council will consider a resolution approving a preliminary official statement for the city water and sewer revenue refunding bonds, as well as the yearly housekeeping resolution to levy a 2 mill city tax on the county tax collector’s books for 2021.

Council members will be asked to waive competitive bidding for the purchase of a Stanley Strikeforce jackhammer attachment for the street department; consider a request to reallocate funds on the water department’s budget; and make adjustments to the street department budget.
