LITTLE ROCK – The annual tradition of lighting the Arkansas State Capitol for Christmas will continue this year, but will be offered in a way designed to minimize risk to the public. In lieu of a live ceremony, a brief prerecorded message from Secretary of State John Thurston will be broadcast on loudspeakers across the Capitol grounds Saturday evening at 6.
The message will be followed by the traditional lighting of the Arkansas State Capitol and a musically-choreographed firework show.
The event is open to the public, and attendance is encouraged. Attendees are asked to wear protective face masks and maintain social distancing in keeping with guidelines issued by the Arkansas Department of Health.
