
Two local schools continued action Monday in the Mountain Grove Girls Holiday Tournament.
Gainesville was able to remain alive on the consolation side of the bracket defeating Houston 41-30. Elizabeth Kinsworthy led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points.
Dora suffered its first loss in the tournament following a 56-36 decision by Salem, Missouri. The Lady Falcons were led by Riley Collins with 15 points.
Three local boys’ teams played their second games in the Cabool Holiday Tournament.
Gainesville was sent to the consolation side of the bracket. The Bulldogs ended up falling to Norwood by a final of 59-46.
Lutie was eliminated from the tournament. The Indians lost a losers bracket game to Dora 81-71.
Elsewhere, the Yellville-Summit High School teams had a rough night, as they were swept at Guy-Perkins.
The Lady Panthers ended up falling to the Lady Thunderbirds 33-28. Avery Dearmore was Yellville-Summit’s top scorer with 11 points.
Yellville-Summit did not fare any better in the boys’ contest losing to Guy-Perkins 74-50. David Derosier led the Panthers with 31 points.
Izard County ended up with mixed results, as Harding Academy came into the Cougar Den from Searcy.
The Cougars took the boys’ game over the Wildcats 66-49. Izard County was led by Coby Everett with 24 points, Caleb Faulkner scored 19, and Gunner Gleghorn added 12. The Cougars improve to 11-3 on the season.
The girls’ contest had a different result, as Izard County fell to Harding Academy 50-42. Alli Marlin was the Lady Cougars’ leading scorer with 16 points, and Cassidy Coleman chipped in 11.
Mammoth Spring’s boys had a rough trip to Greers Ferry, as they lost to West Side 80-71. Aidan Burns led the Bears with 25 points, and Cole Young finished with 18.
The Melbourne girls were able to pick up a win on their home floor. The Lady Bearkatz topped Bigelow by a score of 55-49.
