Members of the Mountain Home City Council will start the 2021 year off in a big way after being sworn in prior to Thursday night’s meeting.

Three items of new business will be ordinances related to issue bonds and calling for a special election to upgrade the park system in the city and construct a community center at McCabe Park.

The first ordinance calls for a one-quarter of 1% sales tax, the second for a special election to approve the tax and the third to institute a half of a 1% tax for the purpose of financing all park upgrades and to set a special election for that proposed sales and use tax.

The city’s original plans for the project were pulled due to the possible economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Hillrey Adams discussed the issue during his monthly appearance with Bob Knight on KTLO 97.9 FM.

For the year of 2020, Mountain Home’s sales-tax collections were up over 9%. That fact, coupled with public demand, has Adams ready to bring the project back to the council.
