
Mountain Home Christian Academy was able to sweep a pair of boys’ basketball games at home over Ozarks Christian Academy on Thursday.
The varsity game ended with the Eagles picking up the 78-64 victory. Jordan Woods led Mountain Home Christian with 22 points, Trenton Cox scored 19, Gideon Spray had 15, and Landon Jines added 14 points.
The 14-and-under game was more lopsided, as Mountain Home Christian routed Ozarks Christian 61-13. The 14-and-under Eagles were led by Gabe Spray with 17 points, Cory Jines finished with 16, and Dawson Bingham chipped in 10.
The Cotter High School girls had a good night in front of the home crowd. The Lady Warriors defeated Bakersfield by a final of 50-28.
Gainesville’s girls had a successful opener in the Sparta Lady Trojan Invitational, and one of their players hit a milestone. Shayla Wages scored her 1,000th-career point on the way to helping the Lady Bulldogs get past Bradleyville 57-54.
The Lutie boys suffered their second loss in the Seymour Bank Winter Classic falling to Cabool 54-50. The Indians will face Bradleyville for seventh place on Saturday.
Viola’s girls were able to stay unbeaten in conference play, as they squeaked by Greers Ferry West Side 48-45. Lindsey Browning paced the Lady Longhorns with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and A.J. McCandlis ended up with 12 points. Viola improves to 17-2 on the season and 8-0 in the 1A-2.
The Viola boys were able to pick up a win, as they went across the state line. The Longhorns got past Thayer by a score of 66-62.
Salem’s high school teams had a rough outing, as they were swept at Melbourne. The Lady Greyhounds lost a close game to the Lady Bearkatz 43-41. The night wasn’t any better for Salem’s boys, as they lost to Melbourne 67-30.
Mammoth Spring had one win, as they hosted Marmaduke for three girls’ games. The varsity contest was the only loss for the Lady Bears, as they fell to the Lady Greyhounds 70-48. The junior high game had a different result, with Mammoth Spring routing Marmaduke 48-15. The evening began with a seventh grade contest, as Mammoth Spring topped Marmaduke 26-8.
