Baxter County will miss heavy icing, but snow lurks on the horizon

Baxter, Boone and Marion counties will be spared the brunt of an expected ice storm in Arkansas Wednesday night, but Izard and Stone counties remain in an ice storm warning overnight.
Meteorologist Thomas Jones of the National Weather Service (NWS) in North Little Rock explains the changes to the ice storm track.

Central and Eastern Arkansas will be dangerous for travel during the storm, but Jones says the NWS is confident in the storm track and forecasted ice accumulations.

After the ice storm passes, arctic air will grip most of Northern Arkansas into early next week, with single-digit lows expected this weekend. Jones says the next weather system to approach the state could bring snow early next week.

Baxter, Marion, Boone, Fulton, Newton and Searcy counties remain under a winter weather advisory until noon Thursday.
