Wednesday basketball results include Cotter girls clinching state bid

There was plenty of high school basketball on Wednesday with regional tournaments getting underway in Arkansas.

Three local teams played their openers in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Magazine.
Cotter’s girls were able to secure a bid to next week’s state tournament. The Lady Warriors beat up on the host Lady Rattlers 64-38.
Yellville-Summit watched its season come to an end in the other girls’ game. The Lady Panthers fell to Acorn by a final of 64-56.
Cotter’s boys did not fare as well as their female counterparts. The Warriors were eliminated by Mansfield with a 53-35 decision.
Flippin was bounced from the tournament in the other boys’ contest. The Bobcats lost to Lavaca by a score of 71-65.

Two area teams played their first games in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Lead Hill.
The Ozark Mountain boys invoked the mercy rule on the way to clinching a state tournament berth. The Bears routed the Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy 63-30.
Lead Hill’s girls had a successful outing on their home floor. The host Lady Tigers were able to eliminate St. Paul with a 40-25 victory.

Three area teams took part in the first day of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Izard County High School in Brockwell.
The Viola boys had an easy win in the final game of the night. The Longhorns put the mercy rule in effect, as they doubled up Maynard 74-37.
Mammoth Spring was one and done on the girls’ side falling to Greers Ferry West Side 64-55 in the tournament opener. Megyn Upton led the Lady Bears with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Chevelle Graves scored 11 points, and Brynn Washam added 10 points. Mammoth Spring’s season ends with a record of 13-12.
Rural Special was dominant in the other girls’ game. The Lady Rebels destroyed Armorel by a final of 53-19.

Both of Melbourne’s teams were successful, as they began hosting the Class 2A Central Regional Tournament. The Lady Bearkatz breezed past Conway Christian 88-28. Melbourne later took the boys’ game over Maumelle Charter 65-53.

The Mountain View girls ended up with an easy victory in the first game of the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament at Manila. The Lady Yellowjackets beat up on Osceola 61-26.

Both of Bergman’s teams had easy wins hosting the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament. The Lady Panthers routed Charleston 69-34, and the Bergman boys won a high-scoring game over Booneville 89-69.

In Missouri, the season ended for Dora’s girls in the sectional round of the Class 2 State Tournament. The Lady Falcons suffered a 69-49 loss at Richland.

It was also another day of district play for Missouri’s larger schools, as the Class 4, District 11 Tournament held its semifinal round on the boys’ side.
Top-seeded Hollister advanced to Friday’s title game with an easy win. The Tigers pounded Mountain View-Liberty 81-55.
Ava will be Hollister’s last opponent in the tournament. In a battle between Bears, Ava came out on top 66-50 over Willow Springs.
