
The Mountain Home High School boys’ basketball team began action in the Class 5A State Tournament at Hot Springs Wednesday by advancing to their first quarterfinal in 10 years. Matt Sharp has the details.

The Bombers’ opener in the tournament ended with a 57-46 victory over Hot Springs Lakeside. Mountain Home built a three-possession lead in the second quarter, but the Rams made a comeback and cut the margin to two points before halftime. Lakeside took the lead in the third period, but it was short-lived, as the Bombers went back on top for good. Mountain Home was able to build a double-digit advantage in the final quarter and eventually went on to win by 11.
Mat Jones led the Bombers with 16 points, Wyatt Gilbert scored 13, and Luke Proctor added 11. Caleb Campbell had 31 points for the Rams.
Lakeside finishes its season with a record of 18-8. Mountain Home improves to 11-13 and will return to Hot Springs on Friday to face Jonesboro in the quarterfinals.
