The Cotter City Council will continue preparations for the special election in May for a sales-tax extension at its meeting Thursday evening. The council approved asking voters to extend the current 1% sales tax to pay for water and sewer improvement projects. Mayor McGeorge “Mac” Caradine told KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news in December the continuation of the tax is needed to repair deteriorating sewer lines in the city.

The council will review two items on the ballot and times for early voting. A public information Q&A on the issue will be held April 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cotter Fire Station.

The Cotter City Council will also discuss taking bids on a vehicle and two pieces of equipment from city departments, hear a report on the cost of opening and closing graves and consider a grant to request funds to repave the walking path circle to the railroad bridge back to the pavilion to comply with ADA regulations.

The meeting starts Thursday evening at 6 at Cotter City Hall.
