On March 5, five cadets from the Navy National Defense Cadet Corps represented Mountain Home High School by taking the Navy National Academic Exam. The team, instructed by George “Bud” Zorman, placed 41st out of 144 schols in Area No. 8 and 75th out of 1,338 high schools across the nation.

Team members include Cadet Commander Gabrielle Moreno, Cadet Lieutenant Levi Pennington, Cadet Petty Officer First Class Rayne Tilley, Cadet Petty Officer First Class Paige Street and Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Faithe Ann Hall.

According to Zorman, the exam is 100 questions, must be completed in 50 minutes, and covers all areas of Naval Science.

“It is a very difficult test to prepare for as there is so much material to choose from,” he said. “I am very proud of these fine, young Cadets. Mountain Home has scored in the top 50 percent or better every year for the last five years. One time in the top 25 percent and one time in the top 15 percent, which was extremely impressive. Our cadets represented our school and our community well. I am proud of their honor, courage and commitment.”

High school principal Brent Bogy echoed Zorman’s sentiment.

“Our cadets continue to excel both in and out of the classroom,” he said. “Our students’ scores on the Navy National Academic Exam for 20-21 placed our cadets in the top 57 percent nationally. I’m very proud of their commitment to high standards locally as well as nationally.”
