A Marion County man, 38-year-old Chancey M. Wilson of Flippin, has been charged with a felony count of assault on an officer, after he allegedly kicked a member of the Bull Shoals Police Department in the chest, while continuing to attempt to punch him. Law enforcement would later recover five weapons from inside Wilson’s vehicle, including a loaded pistol from the area where the Flippin man had been sitting.
According to a report from the Bull Shoals Police Department, the incident on March 31 began after law enforcement was alerted to Wilson being observed at the United Methodist Church “acting suspicious.”
From across the street in the city hall parking lot, the responding officer observed Wilson talking to himself and “seemed to be agitated.”
As the officer neared the entrance to city hall, he heard Wilson yell “hey” extremely loud. The officer drove his patrol unit to Wilson’s location.
While pulling onto truckolyn Drive, Wilson approached the patrol unit and began speaking to the officer in a “very aggressive manner.” As Wilson did so, he got closer to the officer who pulled his Taser and told the Flippin man he needed to calm down.
Wilson made comments about (district) Judge (Jason) Duffy being dead inside city hall and told the officer to go look.
Wilson then walked away from the officer despite being told repeatedly to stop and move away from his vehicle. Instead, he locked himself inside his vehicle.
A second officer arrived on the scene. Both were aware Wilson has a history of carrying firearms inside his vehicle, leading them to draw their weapons and order the Flippin man to keep his hands where they could see them and open the door.
When Wilson failed to comply, one of the officers broke the driver’s side window of his vehicle to gain access to the suspect.
Once the window was open, Wilson allegedly unsuccessfully attempted to punch the officer who had broken the glass.
The officer opened the vehicle door and withdrew his Taser, while giving more verbal orders for Wilson to exit the truck.
With Wilson continuing to disobey orders, the officer stunned him in the left upper arm. Wilson then reportedly kicked the officer in the chest. The kick knocked off the officer’s body camera, with Wilson continuing his punching attempts.
The second officer then made an attempt to tase Wilson, with a negative connection.
Wilson began to rip the wiring probes and said if the officers wanted to fight him, he would reciprocate.
Another attempt to tase Wilson hit him in the finger and arm, he collapsed and was placed into custody.
While searching his vehicle, in addition to the loaded pistol, the officers located two rifles and two shotguns.
Wilson is also facing misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
His bond is set at $50,000.
