A three-vehicle wreck Sunday afternoon injured a horse and caused extensive damage to the trailer it was being transported in, the Mountain Home Police Department reports.

According to an accident report, Greyson Luke Melton of Evening Shade was driving a 2021 Ford F-series pickup truck while pulling a horse in a trailer behind the truck, shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday when he ran the red light at the intersection of the Sheid-Hopper Bypass and Charles Blackburn Drive.

According to Melton’s statement included in the report, he saw the light turn yellow and tried unsuccessfully to stop the pickup, ultimately running through the light.

While crossing the intersection, the trailer was struck in the side by a 2007 GMC Yukon being driven by Austin Mikel Short of Midway and a 2008 Kia Sorento driven by Michael L. Mitchell of Mountain Home. Short was in the turning lane and Mitchell was in the straight lane headed towards Walmart, the report notes.

The trailer was flipped on its side and unhooked from the pickup during the collision. The horse inside the trailer was injured in the accident, with damages to the animal estimated at $500, the report states. The horse was eventually pulled from the damaged trailer and removed from the scene.

Both the Yukon and the Sorento sustained front-end damage in the crash and had to be towed from the scene. The pickup, which sustained damage to its rear bumper, was able to be driven from the scene, but the trailer sustained heavy damage and had to be towed, the report says.

Melton was ticketed with running a red light and not having insurance.
