For years, a local group has had a goal of sprucing up and maintaining several areas of Baxter County as they look to spread the joy of gardening. The volunteer program, known as the Baxter County Master Gardeners, features individuals trained specifically to represent the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture’s Cooperative Extension Service by providing information on gardening and developing community programs related to horticulture.
Baxter County Master Gardeners Vice President of Special Events and Outreach Ceil Gasiecki was a recent guest of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM, and she says the goal of the organization is to “help others grow.”
Listen:
The Master Gardeners have several ongoing projects in Baxter County, which they maintain. Those projects include th Pollinator Garden at the Library, the Clysta Willett Garden, the Cooper Park Garden, the Garden at the Norfork National Fish Hatchery, Bull Shoals-White River State Park Garden, the Extension Office Garden and the Fairground Garden.
For anyone looking to become a Master Gardener, Gasiecki says one of the only requirements is to take an online informative class, offered in the spring and the fall.
Listen:
Gasiecki says the Master Gardeners are hopeful they can resume their regular meetings in the next couple of months, and it’s not necessary for attendees to be members of the group. She says they normally meet on the second Thursday afternoon of the month from 1 to 3 at First Presbyterian Church on Spring Street in Mountain Home.
