
The looming freeze expected to hit the Twin Lakes Area tonight has left local gardeners scrambling to protect their plants, KTLO’s Vicki Garner says.
With the forecast calling for overnight lows in the 20s, the National Weather Service has issued freeze warnings for northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. The Missouri freeze warning begins at 9 tonight and lasts until 9 a.m. tomorrow. Arkansas’ freeze warning begins at 1 a.m. tomorrow and lasts until 9 a.m.
Garner, the host of the “Gardening in The Ozarks” program, offers up the following advice to listeners regarding their plants:

Material often used to cover outdoor plants include pots, lightweight tarps, old sheets or old quilts, Garner says.
Potted plants should be brought indoors instead of being covered, Garner says.

Garner says it’s ultimately better to be safe than sorry when it comes to plants and freezing conditions.

Garner recommends any plants brought indoors be first checked for unwelcome visitors that might tag along with the plants. Excess water should also be drained before plants are moved indoors.
