
January sales tax numbers for both Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home continued to show improvements compared to last years collections, reports from county and city officials indicate.
Baxter County collected $661,934.55 from its 1% sales tax, keeping 58% percent of that revenue and distributing the rest among the county’s nine cities based on their population.
Baxter County’s portion of that sales tax totaled $382,287.01, according to figures released by County Treasurer Jenay Mize. That is a 6.1% increase of $22,004.41 from the January 2020 collection of $360,282.60.
Mountain Home reported $465,407.96 in January sales tax revenue from its own 1% sales tax, according to figures released by Treasurer Marshella Norell. That is a 7.4% increase of $33,442.09 from the January 2020 sales tax collection of $431,965.87. The city also received $198,486.29 in January sales tax revenue from the county’s 1% sales tax.
In addition to Mountain Home, Gassville took in $33,134.20, Cotter received $15,466.88, Lakeview got $11,815.42, Norfork took in $8,148.02, Salesville received $7,175.35, Briarcliff got $3,763.08 and Big Flat took in $1,658.30.
Baxter County received $165,483.64 in January revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operations of the Baxter County Detention Facility.
Mountain Home received $174,527.99 in January from its 0.375% sales tax to support its Police and Fire departments.
Sales tax distributions are made two months after sales taxes are collected by area businesses. January’s reports reflect area spending from November.
