Bobby Hulse, the late Norfork High School principal, will be recognized next month with his own day.
The Norfork City Council on Tuesday night approved a proclamation naming May 25 as “Bobby D. Hulse Day.” Hulse, who served as the de facto face of the Norfork community, died in late January at age 76.
Norfork Mayor Lisa Harrison talks about the impact that Hulse left behind, both on the school and across the community.
Listen:
Hulse spent 41 years with the Norfork School District, arriving in 1980 after a friend and a member of the Norfork School Board convinced him to interview for a job opening as the school’s principal. Hulse became known as an educator that fought for his students and took pride in his school’s accomplishments.
Hulse also coached Norfork’s athletic teams, and the school’s basketball arena Bobby D. Hulse Gymnasium bears his name.
The selection of May 25 as Bobby D. Hulse Day has a special meaning, Harrison says.
Listen:
The longtime educator would have celebrated his 77th birthday this year on that date.
A community event is planned for the evening of May 25 as part of the day’s activities, Harrison said.
Listen:
Hulse passed away on Jan. 27 after a lengthy battle with COVID-19.
