Fourteenth Judicial District Prosecutor David Ethredge has announced no charges will be filed in connection with the shooting of a suspect on March 30 at Casey’s General Store in Mountain Home.
After reviewing the Arkansas State Police’s investigative report on the incident, Ethredge has ruled the shooting was a “justified use of force” by a Mountain Home Police Officer.
41-year-old Kevin Lee Donovan of Adrian, Missouri, was shot after he allegedly shot at a bail bondsman, while the bondsman was attempting to take Donovan into custody on Missouri charges of possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful use of a weapon.
Mountain Home Police Chief Eddie Griffin says three officers were on the scene and one returned fire. The officer who fired his weapon was not identified. No officers or the bondsman were injured in the incident.
The incident occurred when the bondsman located Donovan in Mountain Home at the Casey’s location and called local police to assist in taking him into custody. Officers responded at 7:30 p.m. and confronted Donovan, who brandished a gun and began to back away from authorities. Donovan allegedly retreated west off the business parking lot, raised a gun and fired at the bondsman. The Mountain Home officer returned fire, wounding Donovan.
