Regional tournaments include 14 area baseball, 14 softball teams

Regional tournaments begin this week for baseball and softball in Arkansas. Fourteen area baseball teams and 14 softball teams will compete for a state tournament bid.

Three local baseball teams will begin action in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament Thursday at Mountain Home with Flippin designated as the host school. Cotter meets Mansfield at 10 a.m., Yellville-Summit faces Lavaca at 12:30, and Flippin takes on Acorn at 3 p.m.

Izard County will start hosting the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament Thursday at Brockwell. Norfork and Mammoth Spring get underway at 10, the host Cougars play Hillcrest at 12:30, and Viola will be paired with Armorel at 3.

Four area teams will take part in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament Thursday at Scranton. Lead Hill meets Thaden at 10, Jasper faces County Line at 12:30, Omaha takes on the host Rockets at 3, and Ozark Mountain plays Ozark Catholic at 5:30.

Two local teams will return to Tuckerman Thursday for the opening day of the Class 2A Central Regional Tournament. Melbourne will be matched up with St. Joseph from Conway at 3, and Salem meets Hector at 5:30.

Harrison will begin hosting the Class 4A North Regional Tournament Thursday at the Equity Bank Sports Complex. The Goblins face Pottsville at 12:30.

Mountain Home will also be the site for the Class 2A West Regional Softball Tournament, and three local teams will take the field Thursday. Flippin takes on Magazine at 12:30, Cotter plays Lavaca at 3, and Yellville-Summit goes up against Acorn at 5:30.

Four area softball teams will be in Scranton Thursday to begin the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament. Jasper meets County Line at 10, Ozark Mountain faces Western Yell County at 12:30, Lead Hill takes on Scranton at 3, and Omaha plays Mulberry at 5:30.

Three local softball teams will be at Izard County High School in Brockwell Thursday for the opening day of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament. Mammoth Spring will be paired with Shirley at 10, Izard County meets Hillcrest at 12:30, and Viola faces Armorel at 5:30.

Two local schools will send their softball teams to Tuckerman on Thursday for the start of the Class 2A Central Regional Tournament. Melbourne plays South Side-Bee Branch at 12:30, and Salem will be matched up with Bigelow at 5:30.

Valley Springs will be the designated host school for the Class 3A Region 1 Softball Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. Thursday’s opener will be a battle between Lady Tigers as Valley Springs meets Charleston at 10.

Harrison will also host the Class 4A North Regional Softball Tournament beginning Thursday. The Lady Goblins face Morrilton at 12:30.
