
High school baseball and softball make up much of the local Thursday schedule as state tournaments get underway in Arkansas.
The Mountain Home High School softball team will welcome 15 other schools to the Twin Lakes Area for the Class 5A State Tournament. The Lady Bombers’ opening game will be at McClain Park as they meet Sheridan.
Mountain Home enters the tournament as the fourth-seeded team from the 5A-West with a record of 15-10. The Lady Yellowjackets are the champions of the 5A-South. The first pitch at Freedom Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Also at McClain Park, Greenwood and Lake Hamilton get underway at 10 a.m., Sylvan Hills faces Marion at 12:30, and Paragould takes on Beebe at 5:30. At Keller Park, Searcy and Benton get the action started at 10, Alma plays White Hall at 12:30, Greene County Tech will be paired with Little Rock Christian at 3, and Vilonia meets Hot Springs Lakeside.
Four local softball teams will be in Carlisle for the start of the Class 2A State Tournament. At Bob Hillman Field, Cotter faces Parkers Chapel at 10, and Melbourne takes on McCrory at 12:30. At Bobby Glover Field, Flippin plays Horatio at 12:30, and Salem will be matched up with Carlisle at 3.
Two area softball teams will head to Izard County High School in Brockwell for their openers in the Class 1A State Tournament. Jasper meets Sacred Heart at 10, and Mammoth Spring faces Bradley at 5:30.
Valley Springs will play one of the opening games in the Class 3A State Softball Tournament at Ashdown. The Lady Tigers take on Atkins at 10.
Three local baseball teams will take part in the Class 2A State Tournament hosted by Carlisle. At Lonoke, Yellville-Summit plays Woodlawn at 10, and Salem goes up against McCrory at 5:30. Flippin meets Parkers Chapel at 12:30 at Carlisle.
Izard County is the host school for the Class 1A State Baseball Tournament. At Viola, Mammoth Spring faces Ouachita at 10, and the Longhorns take on Hermitage at 3. The host Cougars play Taylor at 5:30 in Brockwell.
Harrison’s baseball team will be in Morrilton for the start of the Class 4A State Tournament. The Goblins will be paired with Camden Fairview at 3.
