MH falls in state softball semis; Viola, Izard County to play for state baseball title

The Mountain Home High School softball team fell one win short of playing for a state championship. The Lady Bombers hosted the Class 5A State Tournament at McClain Park and suffered a 7-5 loss to Greenwood in Saturday’s semifinals. Mountain Home’s season comes to an end with a record of 18-12.
Greenwood’s championship opponent next week will be Benton. The Lady Panthers shut out Greene County Tech in the first semifinal by a score of 4-0.

Three local baseball teams took part in the semifinals of the Class 1A State Tournament at Izard County High School in Brockwell, and two of them will move on to play for a state title next week in Benton.
Viola won the most recent state championship in 2019, and the defense of that title continues. The Longhorns defeated Mammoth Spring by a final of 12-2. The Bears’ final record is 15-7.
Viola’s last opponent for the season will be 1A-2 conference foe Izard County. The host Cougars won Saturday’s first semifinal 12-5 over Greers Ferry West Side. Izard County improves to 19-5 on the year.

District play began for high school baseball in Missouri, and Bakersfield was one and done in the Class 2, District 6 Tournament at Seymour. The Lions fell to Fordland 5-3.
